10 voiumes, 8vo, publisher's green buckram, top edges gilt, others untrimmed, each volume approximately 350 pp., all profusely illustrated, gravure frontispiece and added title page on japan vellum in each volume, all books in original dustjackets of pale green laid paper watermarked "MBM (France)", each with printed paper spine label of cream paper lettered in red and black, all but first volume have an additional plain glassine jacket. Leaf in first volume autographed by Woodrow Wilson preceded by subscriber/limitation leaf stating: "This is Autographed Set No. 201 of A History of the American People, Documentary Edition, Limited to 400 Registered and Numbered Copies and Printed by Harper & Brothers for Jessie M. Johnson." A superb set of the scarce autographed edition of President Woodrow Wilson's "History of the American People." First published in 1902, at the beginning of Wilson's 8-year tenure as president of Princeton University, this expanded edition was published at the beginning of his second term as President of the United States. Harper's publication announcement (seeking subscription orders) in the March 22, 1919 number of "Publisher's Weekly" says there were 300 sets bound in buckram, 75 in three-quarters levant and 25 in full levant. First volume slightly cocked and with some foxing to preliminary leaves, else all books in fine condition and mostly unopened; faint stain to rear jacket panel and general edgewear to jacket of first volume, else jackets all very good to fine with occasional short tears to edges, glassines moderately worn, vol. 6 glassine has tear to spine.
