About this Item

The history and antiquities of Northamptonshire: compiled from the manuscript collections of the late learned Antiquary John Bridges, Esq. By the rev Peter Whalley- containing The Hundreds of Corby, Navisford, Polebrook, Willibrook, Nassaburgh or Liberty of Peterborough Part work, pages 271-609, 8 engravings, Geddington Cross and 7 concerning Peterborough Cathedral as listed in Upcott, title page creased, listing the hundreds, index of villages and plates, book plate of Trevor Hold, original boards, top of front cover water stained and frayed, edges and corners slightly worn. John Bridges died in 1724 and the complete work was published int wo volumes in 1791. The Rev Peter Whalley was engaged to get this great work, the first book details the history and antiquities of the County, ready for publication. The first part was published in 1762 and a second in 1769 but it was another 22 years before the complete work was to appear. We think that this present volume was this second part.
