Original dark maroon cloth with beveled board edges; mottling prevalent along front board's fore-edge, board corners mildly worn, light staining to rear board, spine ends frayed with shallow cloth loss, spine's gilt lettering dulled and difficult to discern. Some color loss and soiling to red text block edges; front and rear hinges shaken but with binding otherwise still firm; ownership inscription dated 1887 on front flyleaf recto with more modern ink notation regarding past owner's family history with some page citations in pencil on opposing front free endpaper verso; light toning affecting interior page margins but leaves overall remain quite clean (with no markings on the cited pages either); paper loss at bottom corner of pages 283-284.
