About this Item

An old and informative book about Harlem before it became a Black neighborhood. It provides much info on early Methodist ministers and members. Careful searching reveals occasional, scarce evidence of the joining of a very few Blacks in the late19th or early 20th centuries (who would then be among the earliest Black churchgoers of Harlem). The church remains in Harlem and the congregation now reflects the current ethnicity of that community. An impressive looking volume with well-decorated covers and gilt edges. Rare. VG- (some pages loose, back cover stained and discolored). Bookseller Inventory # 000161
