16 pages plus covers. Small booklet die-cut in the shape of a pansy bloom, H 10cm x L 10.6cm, with front and rear chromolithographed stiff paper covers featuring yellow and purple color flowers with small multicolored vignettes inset in flower's center stamen area. Front cover's gilt lettering a bit muted against purple background but still easily legible. Covers lightly soiled and light scuffed at edges; two small patches of surface abrasion to front cover. Pages 1-4 creased at top edges from fold-downs. Pictorial title page; b/w illustrations on most versos with text on opposing rectos; small b/w floral illustrations decorating text pages as well. Undated but OCLC cites circa 1890 and Victorian style graphics are certainly contemporary to 1880-1890 period. A very good copy of an excellent example of late 19th century American advertising of which OCLC cites only four copies among member libraries. Operating from 1875 to 1922 and based in Lowell, Massachusetts, C.I. Hood & Co. was among the largest patent medicine companies in the United States and offered a number of personal health products in additional to its flagship Hood's Sarsaparilla. As a leader in the development of color lithography as an advertising tool, C.I. Hood and Company produced all of its advertising in-house and owned twenty presses issuing a plethora of colorful trade cards, posters, calendars, pamphlets, and other ephemera all promoting the medicinal benefits of company products.
