About this Item

This is a very good copy of this title. The dust jacket does have small chips at the edges but is in very good condition. Horatio Seymour (1810-1886) was one of the most important figures in New York politics and in the national councils of the Democratic Party from about 1845 to 1880. He was in the genuine sense a Jeffersonian, the tireless foe of tariff protection and governmental centralization. brings out much forgotten material on the conduct of the Civil War and the political situation behind it, and also the development of the United States during the stormy decades of the sixties and seventies.
