About this Item

The date 1903 appears on the title page; on the copyright page the date is 1905 which also states First Edition. Subtitle: "Grand Universal Drama of Civilization with its Intermezzo." 575 numbered pages with several full-page illustrations by the author. Black cloth covers with traces of gilt lettering and decorations on the front cover, dark lettering on the spine with the date 1906 and the words "First Edition." Unfortunately the back cover must have gotten wet at some point and is discolored, spotted, and terrible looking. But the text block is in very good condition. Tipped in at the back is a single sheet of now yellowed paper on which is written in ink: "The Author, Alberto G. Guzzacco, born in Sicily in 1854, no education except one night at school, tought [sic] himself - on railroad six months [made?] money then fruit and confectionery stand then visions and the book. Address #406 East 4th St., K.C. Mo." Photo of the author as a frontispiece. Bookseller Inventory # 001543
