About this title

Synopsis:

This book is a comprehensive guide to black-tailed deer hunting, based on the author's 56 years of deer hunting experience. It provides valuable tips for both the novice and seasoned hunter by combining useful biological information and hunting strategies. The book unravels much of the mystery surrounding black-tailed deer from preparation for the hunt to enjoying venison on the table and would be a welcome addition to any hunter's library.

About the Author:

Louis G. Terkla was born in southwestern Montana where he learned at an early age to hunt mule deer and Rocky Mountain elk. As a U.S. Army infantryman during World War II, he earned the bronze star in Italy, and after the war, he pursued an education in dentistry which brought him to Oregon in 1948. After earning his doctoral degree, he joined the faculty of the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry where he spent 35 years as a teacher, researcher and administrator. During the last 17-1/2 years of his tenure, he was the dean of the school. Always an avid hunter, Dr. terkla has pursued mule deer and Rocky Mountain elk in eastern Oregon and black-tailed deer and Roosevelt elk in western Oregon. His interest in, admiration for and over 36 years of experience in hunting black-tailed deer stimulated him to write this book. Dr. terkla lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife of 49 years and his Pudelpointer, an upland game bird hunting dog. He continues to hunt deer, elk and upland game birds with an undiminished passion for the sport.
