About this title

Synopsis:

From Florida to Washington, from California to Maine, migrant farmworkers handpick nearly every vegetable and piece of fruit. Few labor laws protect them and their pay is often stolen by those who employ them. No one story, no single truth, can adequately express the farmworkers’ world; this book presents its complexity in vivid and human language.

From the Back Cover:

"What makes this book so important is that it allows us to see into the lives of those who do the stoop labor to put that lovely salad on our tables. With These Hands is a unique and valuable documentary work that skillfully presents the voices of laborers and others, helping us to understand our connection to the world of America's farmworkers." (Studs Terkel)
