About this Item

Decorated thin card stock wraps tied together with silk ribbon. Unpaginated. With black and white illustrations by S.G. McCutcheon and E.H. Garrett. A long poem portraying a husband's reflection on his once beautiful, but ignorant wife, who has become 'homely,' and rejecting the notion that he should leave her. By David Ross Locke, who was perhaps better known as Petroleum V. Nasby. Through the name of Nasby, Locke was a well known journalist and political commentator, offering satirical and ironic looks at the Civil War and Reconstruction. GOOD condition. Heavy chipping along the extremities, with loss at the corners. Some creasing. General toning and darkening to the wraps, with some soiling and minor staining, both to the interior and exterior.
