About this Item

Original orange dust jacket would probably grade "near-fine" save for a small damp spot -- the size of a pencil eraser -- to bottom of jacket spine. The Foreword is dated August 25, 1928, Dutchess County, N.Y. -- a campaign book of 40 pp., the final 16 pages comprising the address by which Roosevelt placed Smith's name in nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Houston, June, 1928. Roosevelt touts Smith's "growth in office" into a liberal "progressive"(!) At page 13, the supremely partisan FDR manages to state, apparently with a straight face, "I do not think I am letting myself be influenced by partisanship when I express the feeling that since the war national politics in this country has been on a level almost incredibly low. We have, as a nation, the cynical attitude of being willing to let almost any individual or group run our National Government so long as they do not interfere with our pastimes or our prosperity." And if you wanted someone to "interfere with your prosperity," well, Franklin Roosevelt stood ready to answer the call! Reduced from $250. Bookseller Inventory # 004824
