About this title

Synopsis:

"Harry's Night Out" aims to recreate a few typical hours in the life of a cat and what he does in the course of one night. He visits a barn to catch mice but is warned off by an owl. He heads for some dustbins only to meet a fox. After other adventures he returns to his own home where the little girl of the house is just waking up. Abigail Pizer has written and illustrated several picture books - "Nosey Gilbert" (Picturemac, June 1988), "Henrietta Goose" (October 1988) and "Nettlepatch Farm" (four volumes published by Macmillan Children's Books, two in June 1988 and two in October 1988).

From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 3 Harry is a sleek gray cat with wide golden eyes who seems to spend both night and day in relaxed slumber. But once his little girl has gone to sleep at night, Harry slips out the cat door to prowl. Investigating mice in the barn, he is driven out by an angry owl. Munching on tidbits from a garbage can, he is routed by a hungry vixen foraging for her cubs. Contending with a hedgehog for a bowl of milk, Harry triumphs and at sunrise returns home to snooze on his little girl's bed. His adventures are appealingly illustrated with small black-and-white drawings on the text pages opposite large full-color pictures. The animals are done with fine skill in a crisp, realistic technique against a blue, shadowy background and are seen from an interesting variety of angles. The writing is crisp and skillful, as well.
