This is the scarce true first edition of 1962. Unstated limitation but very likely not in excess of 1,000 copies. Designed and printed by Lawton Kennedy, San Francisco. The six color plates made and printed in Japan. Orange buckram binding of nubby, linen-like texture, with crisp brown-stamped Japanese characters to the front board and with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine. 10.5 x 7.25 inches. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. Text block firmly bound in. With 94 numbered pages interspersed with 6 tipped-in color plates, 5 B&W plates, 19 B&W figures, and decorative headbands in red ink for each chapter. An extremely faint and tiny blemish in the fore-edge margin of p. 87. Else an immensely clean copy, and quite tight. Almost certainly unread. Clear acetate DJ, A Near Fine copy in a Near Fine DJ. From the private library of Herbert McLean Evans, with his initials in soft pencil to the front pastedown. Evans [1882-1971] was a highly regarded U.S. anatomist and embryologist. He was an ardent collector of rare books and of Japanese ukiyo-e prints. "Unique in the English language, replete with fascinating facts and essential hawking information, Dr. Jameson's book should long remain the definitive work on the falconry of Japan." Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Bookseller Inventory #
