About this Item

First Edition. This book is more famous for its stunning Henry Thayer / Decorative Designers cover than for the content. This copy has a very clean cover and all gilt is nice & bright (buttlerfly going through curving flower stems). Spine dulled, though still quite legible. Owner's name, else the book internally is near fine. Henley had a foot amputed as a youth, and while ill in the hospital he wrote poems, descriptive of his experience, of such force and poignancy that they opened the way for his career in journalism & letters. He went to London in 1877 and during the next quarter century edited several literary journals with distinguished success and wrote much verse and brilliant criticism.
