About this Item

Book will close its text block -- very good -- but rear panel of jacket shows two closed edge tears of 1/2-inch each, reducing grade of jacket to "good-plus." Additionally, previous owner has written his name and date of purchase to top of both front endpapers in green pencil. He was good: after listening to 10 seconds of his first demo tape, the legendary Sam Phillips of Sun Records reached over, turned off the machine, and declared "I can sell that." And Jerry Lee Lewis was the paramount rock 'n roll showman -- climbing atop the piano, growling into the microphone, banging the keys with his head, flames actually leaping from his fingers, on occasion, as he offered up "Great Balls of Fire" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On." But on tour in England in 1957 he introduced his new wife -- his 13-year-old cousin, Myra Gale. Preachers denounced him from the pulpit, headlines screamed scandal both there and back home, and Lewis fell from grace. A famous biography by the gonzo raconteur of Country and Rock 'n Roll; 276 pp. including index. Reduced from $85. Bookseller Inventory # 004889
