About this Item

Extensive, very important missionary letter dates to that period of difficult. Froam April 28, 1828, he writes to Peter Jackson, a well-known illustrator for the Caxton Press, and a man of highly regarded piety. It seems the CMS had taken some steps against him and sent a loafer and idler to replace him. At this, the natives began to beg, and this is written in a lovely spelling to replicate the Jamaican accent, that he not leave them and even, though he notes it was not proper, begin to threaten the newcomer. He shares a list of grievances with the proceedings of the CMS, etc., and the whole is makred as extrememly confidential repeatedly. Four folio pages, from Salt Savanna, Jamaica. nearly 1000 words.
