About this title

Rise from the dust and become the hero you were born to be--with a little help from Batman. The Hero Doctrine is a rousing cry to the latter-day saints, an echo of Lehi's ancient call to awaken from our spiritual slumber and enter the spiritual battlefield of today's world. Using in-depth parables from pop culture--including the subject of eternal progression in Star Wars and an allegory of the Atonement in The Dark Knight--Silvester reminds us in entertaining ways of our potentials, duties, and privileges as children of a god.

About the Author:

Neal Silvester grew up in California, the son of two paragons of faith. He graduated from Utah Valley University because BYU wouldn't take him. Though The Hero Doctrine is LDS nonfiction, he is usually a teller of stories, with two novels in the works and at least a dozen more on the horizon. Neal believes stories are among the best possible ways to teach the gospel and tries to share his testimony through literature, whether it's pop culture or profound parables. For a time, Neal helped run BYU's speculative fiction magazine Leading Edge (where he previously published his first short story, "Duckman") with his wife, Nyssa. They currently reside with their newborn daughter, Dagny, and four cats (Ringo, Abra, Ender, and Valentine) in Provo, Utah.
