This is no. 31 The preface is signed by Edward Hutton. An little-known aspect of this edition is that Cockerell designed the type. 8vo. viii, 103, [1] p. Top-edge gilt; other edges uncut. No d/w. The type was designed for Dent by Douglas Cockerell and was the first publication using this type. After Marlowe's untimely death in 1593, the poem was completed by George Chapman in 1598. The poem is a re-telling of the Greek legend of 'Hero and Leander'. Some spotting to fore-edge and bottom edge; occasional spotting throughout; age tanning and spotting to endpapers and paste-downs; previous owner's signature on front endpaper; else a very good copy of the 1909 limited edition. It is completely intact but is a little soiled and has some areas of discolouration. No 17 in ink to spine of slipcase.
