Roughly 20.25 by 29.75 inches. Stone lithograph in three colors. Perhaps the most famous book-related poster, produced by the ALA Committee on Public Information, Division of Pictorial Publicity for the United War Work Campaign, scheduled for the Week of November 11, 1918. The campaign united the ALA, the YWCA, the YMCA, the Jewish Welfare Board, and other civic organizations with a goal of raising $170 million to support American soldiers deployed in Europe. As the start date approached and the end of the war seemed near (as it happened, the armistice went into effect on the first day of the campaign), the emphasis shifted to the year or more that the army would remain in Europe securing the peace. The artist was a popular commercial illustrator who worked for several newspapers and provided cover art to the Saturday Evening Post and other magazines. Linen-backed. Other than a few small creases in the upper right border and a bit of evidence of surface cleaning, this is a fine example of a classic poster. Bookseller Inventory # 61043
