About this Item

First editiion thus, revised to include updated information and 1865 census information. Hardcover in dark brown cloth stamped in gilt. Two hand-colored frontispiecs, "The Battle Of Princeton" and "Victory At Trenton". Color tinted map of New Jersey follows the preface. 543 pp. Illustrated with full page engravings and small wood engravings of towns and locations, small maps inset. This classic work, the second oldest devoted to New Jersey hisotry (it was first published in 1844), includes information on "the most interesting facts, traditions, biographical sketches, anecdotes" ; it is organized by county and then by towns in those counties. Interestingly, this, the 1868 edition, is far less commonly seen than those published in the 1840s. Very good, some wear at the tips and spine extremities; front hinge neatly repaired; vintage historical society bookplate front pastedown. Bookseller Inventory # E15772
