About this Item

First edition. Handsomely rebound in period style, brown half calf over marbled paper covered boards, retaining the original red lether spine label lettered in gilt. New textured-paper endpapers. viii+ (18 pp. contents)+ 444pp. Binding: fine. Interior: generally fine with scattered occasional foxing, archival repair to the top edge of the title page (apparently repairing the area from which a contemporary signature was removed, a not uncommon practice.) Franklin spent several years in England preceding the outbreak of the American Revolution, furthering the interest of the Colonies and arguing that Americans were entitled to the same rights and representation as residents of Great Britain. This book was an inportant work detailing the government of then-colony Pennsylvania. It has long been attributed to Franklin with, however, some scholars holding that Franklin's assistant and co-agent Richard Jackson was a major contibutor. Bookseller Inventory # E8096
