Description:

Preface dated September 10, 1928. Printed and presumed bound at the Scribner Press. 9.25 x 6.5 inches. Rust-orange buckram binding, with gorgeous and elaborate design in gilt and aquamarine to the front board and to the spine, and also with crisp rust-orange lettering to the front board and to the spine. Very gently bumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. Heavy-duty boards, exceptionally clean. Hinges strong; text block firmly bound in. Top edge gilt. Handsome colored map pastedowns and opposite FEPs depicting Ancient Persia. With color frontispiece with intact tissue guard, xv and 393 numbered pages, 63 illustrations, and five text cuts and maps. Slight age toning/spotting to the tissue guard and to the opposite frontispiece in the margins, quite minor. Else we can find no foxing, tears, writing or other evident demerits. An exceptionally clean and rather tight copy. Very gently read, if read at all. No remainder marks. Overall a handsome book, impressive for its age. No dust jacket is present. A Near Fine copy. Roberts was a professor of Hebrew and Old Testament Exegesis at Drew University and a professor of Ancient Oriental Literature at Princeton University. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
