Volumes 1 and 2 are the first edition (1797-1804) and Volume 3 is the stated second edition (1791). Two points of the first edition of volume 1 of History of British Birds shows the printed price at bottom of the title page as 13 shillings and the last page of the volume advertises the third edition of A General History of Quadrupeds. From the personal library of Sir Richard Colt Hoare with his armorial bookplate. This is a rare set, offering three of Bewick's most important works, in a contemporary very attractive calf binding. Outer edges of marbled endpapers with slight discoloration, frontis matter and last few pages of all with volumes in mild scattered foxing, the text and wood engravings are bright and clean, professional repair to calf in the upper spine compartment of volume 2; a tight and clean copy in very good condition (see photos).
