The front cover of this book is most attractive having an artist's design of a pulpit done in gilt with the book title imprinted on the front of the pulpit. There is slight wear to the spine and the back cover has a dent toward the bottom edge. The flyleaf has a prior owner's signature with the date 1904. Frontispiece has photo of Martin Luther. The bottom edge of the book block has been bumped out near the edge. There are 20 portraits contained in the book of the subjects. Sample chapters: Prophet and Synagogue. The Preaching of Jesus, Apostolic Preaching, The First Four Centuries, Darkness and Light, Daybreak, Reformation Preachers, The Golden Age of English Preaching, French Preachers of the Seventeenth Century, etc. Concludes with two chapters on American Preaching.
