About this Item

(ALABAMA REGIMENTAL). [WILLETT, Joseph J., ed.]. History of Company B (Originally Pickens Planters) 40th Alabama Regiment Confederate States Army 1862 to 1865. [Anniston, AL, 1902]. 1st ed. 89 pp. Orig. cloth. Some light scattered spotting of cloth, else a very good copy. HOWES W-437. Presentation inscription from the editor on front free endpaper. Most of the work is a verbatim printing of the diary of Capt. Elbert D. Willett, the editor's father. The diary was kept as an official record of the company and thus all activities including skirmishes, furloughs, deaths by disease and those susutained under fire, marches, etc. are described in detail. There are also extracts from the diary of Sgt. John H. Curry, also of the 40th Regiment. A superb account of day-to-day life in the Army of Tennessee. Bookseller Inventory # 51840
