About this Item

This copy has a good bit of wear to the covers and is pulled slightly at the top and bottom of the hinges on the exterior. There is also some loss on the spine particularly at the bottom. The spine cover is lifted in spots but is still mostly present. The title is faded and chipped but still readable. On the inside, the hinges are slightly pulled, but the binding still seems reasonably secure. The book is square and all pages are present. (The tissue separating the engravings of Dow and his wife is still present. ) There is some interior foxing. This book was printed cheaply and in large numbers. Even with its problems, it is still in F to G- condition. ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 720 pages; Lorenzo Dow was probably the first "Alabama Wildman, " though he was from Connecticut. He and his wife, Peggy, traveled extensively, preaching a brand of outlaw Methodism. Here is a link to Wikipedia that gives a better sense of the man: http: //en. Wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorenzo_Dow This book is a stated sixth edition. It lists Rulison publishers in both Cincinnati and Philadelphia. Dow is a treat. He was so popular that copies of his works are not hard to find. He is a fascinating writer and thinker. Howes D440. Bookseller Inventory # 7045
