A New Edition, with the Author's last Corrections and Improvements. To which is prefixed a short account of his Life, written by himself. Complete in 8 volumes, in early full leather bindings. Marbled endpapers and foreedges. Black labels on the spine with gold lettering. Decorative goldwork on the spines. Each volumes measures 5.5 x 8.5 inches. The whole set is 10" wide. Beautiful and attractive on the shelf. The first volume is the only one with any condition flaws -- the front cover is attached only by one cord. Bindings are good and tight. Pages remarkably clean and square. All engravings are present; they are dated 1788. Hume's great history was originally published in the 1750's and 1760's. An additional 5 volumes were added to the series by Smollett. We have those volumes as well, with a matching binding, 1807, also on ABE. They originated in the same collection; previous owners name "H & S Parratt" signed in each volume.
