Reddish cloth. 195 pages. With black and white photos and fold out charts/maps throughout. A history of the 14th regiment of Engineers of the US Army, raised in 1917 and sent to France, being responsible for maintaining supply lines, building and repairing structures, etc during World War I. While the records were destroyed in a fire in 1918, the authors gathered information from members of the regiment, drawing from diaries, letters and an official account from Colonel Wooten. With a regimental roster. GOOD condition with moderate to heavy fading to the cloth, especially along the spine. Minor to moderate uneven scuffing. Minor soiling. A few small areas of discoloration/staining, mostly along the lower rear cover. Interior solid with very minor scattered foxing. Bookseller Inventory # 005249

First printing of this privately published book, which records the activity of the Fourteenth during their two years in service in France. Since most of the regimental records were destroyed at Rattentout, the book was written using personal memories as well records from Washington along with private diaries, letters, etc., provided by members of the regiment. Some light spotting to front board. Tight binding and clean pages. Two maps and a chart bound in, all in very good condition. Former owner's name signed twice on end pages; he was a sergeant in the original Fourteenth, listed in the appendix as such. Laid in is a regimental directory from 1940 of the Fourteenth Engineers Veterans Association. Illustrated with photos. 195 pp. Bookseller Inventory # 74287
