8 vols. 8vo. (22.5 x 14.5 cm.) Contemporary (1867) prize binding of full tan calf, sides with double gilt fillet and blind stamped border, arms of St. john's College Cambridge stamped in gilt to both sides, spines with raised bands and gilt ruled compartments, twin red and green labels, gilt decorated cover edges and blind-stamped inner dentelle, marbled endpapers and edges. Illustrated with a portrait and complete set of maps (21 of which 8 are folding), the one anomaly being that the map of Corinth and adjacent parts called for in vol.VI is bound at the end of vol.VIII. Prize binding with presentation labels from St. John's College Cambridge to Richard Verdon, 1867 and neat ownership inscription of his nephew Howard Verdon dated 1919. A very handsome set.
