A Facsimile of the Rare Boston Edition of 1726. With Notes of Earlier Editors and Additions from the Original Manuscript. Notes, Index and Introduction by Edward Wheelock. Boston, 1924. xvi, (6), 134, (1), 51pp. Bound in new cloth from the original sheets. Limited to 250 copies. A reprint of Howes P-201, which says that this is the "Best early summary of New England's Indian troubles." Penhallow (1665-1726) emigrated to Charlestown, Massachusetts in 1686 and became a prosperous merchant and government official. "During the Indian wars from 1702 to 1725 he kept a very careful record of events" from which this book was drawn. (DAB). Penhallow's firsthand testimony to these pivotal events is invaluable. This limited reprint contains much supporting annotation and scholarship and over half the edition was never distributed. Bookseller Inventory # 8439
