Synopsis: The Ho Chi Minh Trail was a decisive factor in the defeat of American forces in the Vietnam War. The author and photographer, the first Westerners to traverse the entire length of the Trail, trace the footsteps of the hundreds of thousands who designed, built, used and fought along it. They interviewed villagers along the Trail as well as

From the Author: The hardest part of writing this book was first of all overcoming the scepticism of those people who doubted what Clive and I had achieved. It has taken ten years to complete, with several visits to Vietnam, correspondence with America and over two years in Laos, the last year walking some 1400km around the country 700 of which was along the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Our time in the jungle was hard and for this reason we came to respect the ordinary person who built the Trail as they spent years in the harsh forest under war conditions. For this reason the book is called A history of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, The Road to Freedom because it was the road to freedom for them. Clive and I recognise that it was not freedom for everyone and for that reason we have gone out of our way to give a balanced point of view.

We hope you enjoy the book

Book Description Orchid Press Publishing Limited. Hardback. Book Condition: new. BRAND NEW, A History of the Ho Chi Minh Trail: The Road to Freedom, Virginia Morris, Clive Hills, The Ho Chi Minh Trail was a decisive factor in the defeat of American forces in the Vietnam War. At the peak of its 16 years' operation, the Trail ran through North and South Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Despite an estimated 4 million tons of US bombs, efforts to stop the transport of supplies to the North Vietnamese Army over the Trail failed, and by 1975 over a million tons of supplies and 2 million troops had traversed it. The author and photographer, the first Westerners to traverse the entire length of the Trail, trace the footsteps of the hundreds of thousands who designed, built, used and fought along it. Interviewing villagers along the Trail, as well as key military and political figures on both sides of the conflict, including the mastermind of the trail, General Vo Nguyen Giap, they present a fascinating account of this most remarkable feat of engineering and tactical warfare of the Vietnam War era.
