About this Item

(IOWA REGIMENTAL). PIERCE, Lyman B. History of the Second Iowa Cavalry; Containing A Detailed Account of Its Organization, Marches, and the Battles in Which It Has Participated; Also, A Complete Roster of Each Company. Burlington, Ia.: Hawk-Eye Steam Book and Job Printing, 1865. 237pp. Original pebbled brown cloth, gilt insignia on front board, spine gilt. A very good copy. DORNBUSCH (Iowa):16. NEVINS I, p.146. A scarce account of the activities of the Second Iowa Cavalry during the Civil War, published in Iowa the year the war ended. Much of the text relates battles and service in Tennessee. The final third of the text consists of an extensive roster of the regiment, with names, lengths of service, ranks, promotion, and notices of death or discharge for each member. Pierce was the color-bearer of the regiment, and kept a detailed diary of his service throughout the war, which was approved by the officers for correctness, and supplemented by official reports.
