Henry Fielding (1707-1754) has been credited with co-founding the first police force in London. His classic "Tom Jones" was first published in 1749. This deluxe Franklin Library two-volume reprint edition is illustrated with the engravings of Hubert François Gravelot. An entry in publisher's 25th Anniversary Limited Edition of the Great Books of the Western World series. One of an unspecified number in this limited edition. Publisher's "Notes from the Editors" booklet is included. --- Bound in full grey bonded leather covers with four raised bands on each spine. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spines, and textblock edges all in bright gilt. Interior leaves printed on high-quality papers. Dark blue silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarkers.
