In the early days of the Nazi movement, Eugenie Haug and her brother Hans were constantly at Hitler's side, both armed with pistols for his protection. After Hitler's appointment as chancellor in 1933, she was put in charge of the "Sternecker Gruppe" (a group of Nazis of the first hour, whose name is derived from the Sternecker brewery where Hitler attended his first DAP meeting in 1919). Eugenie was also awarded the Golden Party Badge for her 'outstanding service to the cause. The Golden Party Badge (Goldenes Ehrenzeichen der NSDAP; Golden Medal of the National Socialist German Workers' Party) was a special badge of the Nazi Party. The first 100,000 members who had joined and had uninterrupted service in the Party were given the right to wear it (these were denoted by the party members' number stamped on the reverse). Other Golden Party Badges (with the initials 'A.H.' stamped on the reverse) were awarded at the discretion of Adolf Hitler to certain members of the party who merited special treatment.
