Gilbert with Gilbert's inscription and the bookseller's pencilled price notation on the ffep (acquired from Stechert-Hafner, August 23, 1963) and also my bookplate laid in stating that I received it from him November 23, 1979, lower corners bumped, slight shelfwear & sunfading, else tight, clean, and little used, rated Near Fine; this hard-to-find book presents the original cuneiform, Roman transliteration, and English translation of selected texts that were discovered at the site of the ancient Hittite capital early in the 20th century; it is possible to read the English alone, for a vivid insight into Hittite society of the 2nd millenium BC; would interest collectors of books on the Hittite language, as well as students of Indo-European and historical linguistics; hard covers are red/brown with gold lettering on the spine; 4to - 10 1/4 inches high, 230 numbered pages.
