Third edition, seventeenth impression of this renowned novel. Fourteen listed illustrations (colour and b/w); including the maps on the endpapers. They are the work of the author - see examples, such as the Conversation with Smaug and one of the endpaper maps. Condition (book): the book is in a very sound stake with some fading of its pea green colouring in places. Internally, there are hints of tanning and one of the colour illustrations (RIvendale), while intact, is detached from the book block. Condition (dust jacket): assessed as poor because of the section missing (plus some unobtrusive transparent tape repairs in places). See image.
