About this Item

This Bible belonged to Samuel Leavitt and his wife Emily White, who were married on August 7, 1860 in Londonderry, N.H. by the Rev. William Howe. The Bible's family history section records the births of their four children, the first three children dying very young: Harriet Lamprey Leavitt on Sept. 3, 1865 - June 24, 1869; Benjamin Brackett Leavitt on Nov. 9, 1867 - Dec. 24, 1872; Samuel Dean Leavitt on Feb. 4, 1870 - Dec. 21, 1872; and Anne Leavitt on Sept. 15, 1879. Also recorded are the births and most of the death dates of Samuel Leavitt's parents and 5 siblings: His father, Benjamin B.Leavitt, born on Nov. 6, 1798, and his mother, Hannah Lamprey, June 21, 1802 - July 16, 1840. His siblings: Benjamin, May 7, 1825 - Sept. 6, 1826; Benjamin (2nd), August 19, 1827 - Oct. 24, 1828; Harriet Elisabeth, Jan. 18, 1831 - May 1, 1840; Sarah Emery, April 23, 1833 - July 1, 1885; (?) Louisa, Sept. 20, 1835 - Oct. 12, 1836; and Samuel Dean, August 12, 1837. The Bible is bound in full stamped leather with a somewhat rubbed spine. The back cover is stamped with the name "Emily Leavitt". The Bible measures about 8 inches by 10-1/2 inches, and is about 3-1/2 inches thick. Size: 4to - over 9" - 12" tall.
