About this title

HORSE SOLDIERS won the 2001 John Esten Cooke award for Best Civil War Fiction. It is a sweeping epic novel that carries the reader on an absorbing journey through a pivotal period of our American history. The story follows a regiment of Southern mounted infantry from its formation through most of the major battle campaigns in the east. At the end, the reader shares with the few remaining troops their final tragedy of surrender in 1865.

About the Author:

Caleb Glass, a native of North Carolina, grew up in the Concord area used as the background for HORSE SOLDIERS. As an amateur historian, the author has studied the Civil War for more than forty years. His intense interest in the subject was developed at the knee of his grandfather, a survivor of that conflict. The fictional family history is generally autobiographical in that it is modeled on his families North and South Carolina heritage.
