A list of 12 volumes in the series faces the title page. He twice ran unsuccessfully as a member of the Socialist Party for governor of New York State, once for U.S. Senator, and once for Mayor of New York City, but was expelled from the American Socialist Party in 1917 because he supported American intervention in World War I. He won the Pulitzer Prize for literature in 1928. In Very Good- Condition: ends of spine starting to fray; two small holes in front joint; offset from the newspaper clipping on title page and facing page; first 48 pages have scattered underlining and marginal notes in pencil; otherwise clean and tight.
