Small 4to. Red cloth spine with silver letteringand brown paper over boards, pictorial dust jacket. 642pp. Map endpapers. Good plus/near fine. Large and homely abrasion across rear board and similar on front pastedown. Tight and decent first edition of this superb historical fiction set against Second Manassas. Tipped to front map flyleaf is a 3-panel flyer for the 1991 Abraham Lincoln Symposium at which Wicker was a featured guest and speaker, and inner flyleaf has tipped to it a 4½" X 3" index card signed huge and bold by Wicker in blue ballpoint, which he dates 12 February 1991, and a guest's 4½" X 3" admission card to this same symposium. Despite noted homelinesses, a fairly nice signed first edition, internally fine and with a superb d.j. Wicker (1926-2011) was a "New York Times" journalist who penned a number of nonfiction books and this one novel. Bookseller Inventory # 41527
