Dust Jacket Condition: Good (see description). Hannes Bok Cover Art (illustrator). First Edition. -----------hardcover, about 6.25 x 9.25 inches, a Fair to Good copy, a solid copy but there has been dampstaining to the spine and front board resulting in most of the spine lettering and gilt having flaked away, wrinkling to the cloth, rubbing to the bottom edges of the boards with a bit of loss to cloth, browning to the outer edges of the text block, soiling and foxing and staining to front endpapers as well as title page and contents page, ---in an original Good dustjacket with chips and tears, the jacket presents quite well and the book is quite square so overall this looks pretty good, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo. Book Description Arkham House, Sauk City, 1946. First edition. Hardcover, large octavo, 639pp. Some overall browning to pastedowns and initial pages, dustiness to text block edges; else, very good in dustwrapper worn at edges, few tiny tears; not price-clipped; colour illustration bright and unimpeded; professionally protected by superior non-adhesive archival film and white paper backing. A remarkable copy. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. This omnibus collection takes its title from what is perhaps the best of the four novels (The Boats of the Glen Carrig; The House on the Borderland; The Ghost Pirates and The Nightland) despite its lack of form; but all four of the novels merit attention in the genre of the weird and fantastic. Primarily the romanticist, Hodgson could not overcome a strong predilection for the weird. The Night Land is as much a fantasy as it is a romance, a fantasy of the world millions of years in the future. A thread of romance creeps into even the House on the Borderland, indeed, only The Ghost Pirates lacks the customary romantic element, and perhaps, because of this it stands out as the most consecutive narrative of the four.
