Description:

First edition (without statement as is correct for this title). Hardcover. 111 pp. Illustrated with scenes from the stageplay. Fine in fine, bright dust jacket. The musical stageplay with book by Capote, lyrics by Capote and Arlen, and music by Arlen. By far the most difficult Capote title to find, the play was based on his short story that first appeared in "Breakfast At Tiffany's". Set in Haiti, it concerns neighboring, competing bordellos and a prostitute whose madam arranges a marriage with a wealthy lord; she, however, prefers a poor local boy but the madam thwarts their plan to marry by having the boy thrown into the sea in a barrel. He is rescued by climbing aboard the back of a sea turtle. The show first opened on Broadway in December, 1954 to generally poor reviews. A revival was attempted in 1968. Bookseller Inventory #
