About this Item
Octavo, 316pp. A crisp, clean copy, very near fine, in the publisher's red cloth, stamped in black. Spine gently cocked and a touch of rubbing to extremities, as well as a very small contemporary owner's name on the front paste-down. Else quite nice. In the scarce dust jacket, which reproduces the stunning artwork of the first trade edition. A few small and unnecessary tape repairs to verso, some corner chips, short tears, and rubbing; still very good. Though the only printed date is 1925 (that of the first trade edition), the latest title listed on the rear panel of the dust jacket is "Charlie Chan Carries On," which would date it to no earlier than 1930. This G&D edition of Biggers' hit debut novel (which introduced the world to Charlie Chan) is uncommon in jacket, and a nice placeholder for the first edition, which in similar condition will set one back many thousands of dollars (if you can even find one). A Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone. Seller Inventory # 12014
