Original tan board with black cloth on the spine. Black lettering on the front cover with a color illustration. Faded gilt lettering on the spine. 9 X 12 1/2 inches. 345 pages. Copy contains 201 black and white and color illustrations. All plates are present and fully intact. Pyle (1853-1911) was an American illustrator and author. This story begins with William Hawkins in 1530 and end with the surrender of General Lee in the Civil War. Light chipping on the upper front corner of the front cover.
