About this Item

First book version, from articles published in the British Art Journal, 1860-1861, actually, not sure of the precedence of this Nims version, vs the Virtue publishing, in fact this edition was heralded as printed by Virtue in London, slightly confusing, first American for sure. VG cond, lovely copy, bright gilt and black decoration on red cloth to spine and beveled front board, gilt page ends, strong hinges, 464 pages and 306 woodblock engravings, n.d. (1866). Tight and square, note very slight rubbing to edges, a few bubbles on the cloth, prev owner's book plate, Jason and Peggy Westerfield, as long as you asked, half inch rip to frontis, and the accursed tissue has caused a bit of foxing to title and frontis, other pages are bright and beautiful, no foxing or marks of any kind. Wonderful book, splendid illustrations, lacking in so many earlier NY books, plenty on the Adirondacks. Bookseller Inventory # 000186
