About this Item

first and only edition and printing (not stated); no dj as issued; the 1-page Foreword and all contributions are in German except for Adolf Sawoff (Graz) 'un siglo de estudios de lingüística andaluza' and Robert Brock Le Page (York) 'H. Schuchardt's Creole Studies and the Problem of Linguistic Continua' -- a substantial, interesting interpretation by one of the masters of creole studies; from the library of the linguist Glenn Gilbert with his bookplate affixed to the inside back cover, pencilled underlining and notes in Le Page's chapter, ca 2 cm tear in cover at upper back corner, else very little shelfwear, clean and tight, rated VG+; this hard-to-find book would be of interest to collectors of books on Schuchardt whose amazing scope and variety of language interests, from creole to Basque and from Andalucian literature to phonology, opens up new perspectives to 21st century researchers; soft covers are yellow with black lettering on the spine and front, the publisher's logo, an academic-looking building, on the front; 8vo - 24 centimeters high, 314 numbered pages. Store Description

Triple G Books is owned and operated by an emeritus professor of linguistics, who was also an ardent book collector over the period 1954 to 2007. Books for sale range from linguistics, pidgin & creole languages, sociolinguistics, anthropology, education, and comparative religion through modern first editions and German and Scandinavian books. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
