Synopsis: A collection of short stories and poems by well-known American and Soviet writers
From Library Journal:
Shorn of political dogma, this eclectic Soviet/American anthology treats of such universal human concerns as family, career, alcoholism, survival in the nuclear age, etc. As William Styron notes in his foreword, little contemporary Soviet literature has been translated. Thus, while Soviet readers will recognize such American luminaries as Wendell Berry, Robert Penn Warren, Joyce Carol Oates, John Updike, Raymond Carver, Mary Gordon, Garrison Keillor, and Stanley Kunitz, only the Soviet protest poet Yevtushenko will be readily known to Americans. Daniil Granin, the Soviet novelist, hopes in his foreword that glasnost will net an audience for the book on both sides. An interesting addition to the literature.
