About this Item

16mo. Stiff glossy pictorial wrappers. 101pp. Near fine. A tight, attractive first edition of this volume in "The Christian Encounter Series." The third book by the Illinois Democratic senator and 1988 presidential candidate (1928-2003) -- with choice autograph addition: Simon boldly inscribes and signs the front flyleaf to another Illinois politician and future Democratic senator: "To Adlai -- who / some day may / have a chance to / help this hungry / world -- / Paul Simon / 1-19-66." Simon was at this time an Illinois state senator and Stevenson an Illinois state representative. Both would go on to serve Illinois in the U.S. Senate (Stevenson in 1970, Simon in 1985). Simon was a Democratic presidential contender in 1988, though he didn't get the nomination, and Stevenson's father, Governor Adlai E. Stevenson II, was the Democratic nominee in 1952 and 1956. A fine association copy from one future Illinois Democratic senator to another. Bookseller Inventory # 40676
