Book Description no place: privately printed by the author, ca. 1970, 1st edition, 1970. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 4to. The book is a historical account of wild sheep in Colorado and their hunting. In the first chapter, Leonard reviews the history of sheep and sheep hunting in Colorado and includes a table listing the number of sheep hunting permits issued by hunting unit and the actual number of sheep killed from 1953 to 1968. The second chapter deals with physical characteristics and natural history. In the lengthy third section, “Individual Success Stories,” Leonard includes the successful narratives of 40 hunters (of which 3 were women) and their successful bighorn hunts in Colorado, including his own hunt. Of the 40 hunts, four had previously been published in Outdoor Life, and three previously published in Field and Stream. The other significant chapter relative to hunting is "Roll Call of Colorado’s Successful Sheep Hunters," in which he tallies the total number of sheep killed each year and lists the hundreds of names of sheep hunters (including the years or years they hunted and the areas hunted) that have successfully collected a bighorn in Colorado [Czech & Valdez, Bibliography of Hunting the Wild Sheep and Goats of the World, p. 157]. Well illustrated with photos. Dark blue cloth with bighorn ram vignette on upper board, blind spine as published. Thin orange mark on top page edge, else a near fine copy. This is a large, heavy book and will entail additional international postage. Bookseller Inventory # ca1714

Book Description Self Published, Colorado, 1968. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. First. 200 pp, close to 200 photos. Privately printed by the author. Large format. Leonard is, unfortunately, known as the man who got caught crossing state lines and guiding an undercover Fish & Wildlife officer to a bighorn ram. Nevertheless, his book is filled with great and informative hunting stories and contains much information of interest to hunters and book collectors. Because only a small number of copies were printed the first ed. is quite scarce. Great reading. VG+ to near fine. Bookseller Inventory # 4282
