About this Item

CONDITION: Very Good; no names or other marks, sturdy box quite browned with split corners neatly reinforced with archival tape, top note sheets and envelopes are darkened; those papers protected from light and/or the acidic paper box are quite bright white; the bands and paper components are otherwise fine except for a 1/4" tear and lightly turned corner on one note sheet; although the set looks complete, we think there were probably 6 of each note/envelope set, so four sets of the original 36 sets are missing, however, all four drawings have several examples of each remaining. boxed set (writing paper) "Our new Peter Rabbit Note Paper for Little People is mighty attractive. It is reasonably priced. Please send for samples." (from a Hurd's 1918 ad). George B. Hurd & Co. "Fine Paper Makers" did business through the turn of the last century at least until the early 20's; the company was associated with Crane's and sold only to stationers. The little coloured sketches, not attempted copies of Potter, are detailed and well done. These tiny notes and envelopes are simply charming!
